CNC in acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber (NBR)

A diverse range of applications of CNC in rubber matrices is evolving. A recent addition to this growing group is the improvement in the properties of aramid-fibre-reinforced NBR. This work recently published by Guo, Guo, Liu, Wang and Song from Qingdao University, China shows that CNC has a double role; it acts as a thickener and adds further to the reinforcement of the rubber composite. The figures below taken from the publication show that 1 phr of CNC can significantly improve the tensile and tear strength of the reinforced NBR composite; Not shown, but described in the publication, is that the elongation at break is also improved.
