Cellulose nanocrystals in epoxy resins (part 2)

Published On: 2020-09-16Categories: CNC Community

Complementing our last publication on the reinforcement of epoxy resins by addition of cellulose nanocrystals, another group, Kumara et al. of Queen’s University, Belfast and Monash University, Australia, has shown that the addition of 2 wt% nanocellulose to glass fibre-reinforced epoxy resin yielded increases of 56% in storage modulus, 50% in flexural modulus, 55% in flexural strength, 14% in tensile modulus and 24% in tensile strength. Again, SEM images showed evidence of the strengthened interface created by cellulose nanocrystals in these fibre-reinforced composites.
